EDAPHON

Subject: An artificial, scented underground garden
Installation: Immersive journey through the scenography Materials : Paper flowers by Lucie Touré, sisal fibre, seed paper
Scent: HUMUS by Paul Guerlain
Year: 2023 — Grange de la Maladrerie Saint-Lazare, Beauvais

Leaving behind the familiar, expected visions of the classic garden, this installation invites you to venture into the depths of the subsoil and discover a garden beneath the earth. A monochrome world born from the union of two plant materials — sisal fibre and paper — Édaphon is an ode to origins and to the invisible: a tribute to the priceless life of the soil, forerunner of the very first shoots.

Wrapped in thousands of seeds held captive in paper, this immersive installation invites visitors to take on the scale of an ant and wander along paths of paper and reflections, where they will encounter a chimera — half animal, half plant — that has made its home there.

In this imaginary, floral and organic world, a fragrance created specifically for this landscape work accompanies visitors, bringing the olfactory presence so essential to, and so intimately bound up with, the garden. ‍
